International Coastal Cleanup Day
If you’re reading this, then you know the reasons why we transitioned to a plastic-free brand. From plankton to whales, animals who live in the ocean are finding their homes polluted by single-use plastic.
While plastic pollution is a massive problem for our oceans, your everyday actions can make a big difference. September 17th is International Coastal Cleanup Day, and there are ways to get involved:
Start a Cleanup
If you live on the coast, you can start a cleanup of your own. Organizations like the Ocean Conservancy have resources to help you do this.
Join a Cleanup
Organizations like Surfrider.org offer connections to local beach cleanups you can join in your area.
Donate
Don’t live close enough to the coast to join a cleanup? Pick an ocean advocacy organization you love and make a donation (we like the Plastic Pollution Coalition).
Buy Fewer Single-Use Plastics
Each year the beauty industry alone produces a staggering 120 billion units of plastic. Here are some easy ways you can reduce your personal consumption of single-use plastics, and here are four big reasons why choosing sustainable brands like ours matters when it comes to the health of our oceans:
- You are ensuring that fewer microplastics go into the oceans when you choose a brand that is plastic-free.
- When you use products that are non-toxic, plant-based, and free from harmful chemicals, you are also keeping those things out of our waterways when you shower.
- Many sustainable clothing and décor brands use organic and recycled materials, which helps keep plastics out of our landfills and oceans and has the potential to use less water in production.
- Sustainable brands support other sustainable businesspeople. For example, our ingredient suppliers are all invested in sustainable practices.
Happy Coastal Cleanup Day! We’re so grateful for our oceans, which supply half the oxygen we breathe. Let’s work together to restore their health.
