Meet the Bioactives: Squalane

Looking for a five-star glow?  We’ve got a bioactive for that. Squalane is an emollient that helps replenish skin’s moisture with essential fatty acids and antioxidants. With a sebum-like texture, squalane feels lightweight on the skin and research indicates it can also help to strengthen skin barrier function.

It’s important to note that the squalane we use is entirely plant-based. We love it for its ability to help keep skin hydrated, plumped, and soft without feeling heavy or greasy.

You’ll find squalane in our Super Antioxidant Glow Oil, alongside other potent bioactives, such as bakuchiol, rosehip seed oil, and tamanu oil.

While our Glow Oil offers a distinct advantage in keeping your glow-quotient high, there are other steps you can take to cultivate and maintain a healthy-looking glow. For example:

Drink More Water
Drinking half your body weight in ounces of water each day helps your body flush toxins and stay better hydrated. Many of us are slightly dehydrated much of the time, so if this was your only change, you’d likely see a big difference.

Stress Less
Not to be glib, but really, stop stressing so much. It’s bad for your body, and those zits that pop up when you’re stressed are proof.  Do what it takes to feel more relaxed, whether it’s saying no more often, asking for help, getting support from a therapist, meditation, exercise, or nature time. Life is too short and precious to waste it unnecessarily on the depleting cycle of stress.

Exfoliate
Having a daily and weekly exfoliation ritual helps remove expired skin cells, unclog pores, and reveals brighter, smoother skin.

Eat and Drink for Glowing Skin
Eliminating sugar, fried foods, and alcohol (do we even need to mention not smoking?) is the first step in creating a glow-supporting diet. Incorporating more foods like seasonal berries, matcha tea, seeds like pumpkin and sunflower, and leafy greens help boost your glow too.

Get Plenty of Sleep
They call if beauty rest for a reason. Ditch your devices an hour before bedtime, invest in some light-blocking shades, give yourself a pre-bed ritual that helps your nervous system relax, and you’ll be a glow machine in no time.

Sweat it Out
Whether your sweat comes from exercise or a sauna, it will help your skin stay clear and glowing. Just be sure to follow with a good facial cleanser, toner, and moisturizer.

At its deepest level, cultivating glowing skin is the same thing as cultivating excellent health. It’s a holistic endeavor involving body, mind, and spirit. It is our mission to offer you the most nurturing, sustainable products possible in your journey. Happy #SustainableSelfCareSunday!
