Plant-Based Beauty Foods

It’s World Vegan Day, and to celebrate our love of plant-based ingredients, we’ve rounded up a list of the best foods you can eat for glowing, beautiful skin (hint: some of them are part of our new Plastic-free Bodycare formulations, too!).

Your skin is the largest organ, and is often a reflection of how your body responds to what you eat. Fried foods and sugar, for example, can contribute to acne and sallow-looking skin. Plenty of leafy greens and healthy, plant-based fats can help your skin glow with vitality.

Here is a list of some of our favorite vegan beauty foods:

Avocados – Just remember, you can’t please everyone… you’re not an avocado! This delicious wonder-fruit is rich in Vitamins C and E, which are integral antioxidants for helping protect cells from damage. Avocados contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which may help improve skin tone. They are also rich in monounsaturated fat, which helps your body absorb certain vitamins, including A, D, E, and K.

Dark, leafy greens – Greens such as kale, collards. and spinach are nutritional superstars containing many skin-loving vitamins and antioxidants.

Matcha Tea – Matcha tea is rich in polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that helps lower the amount of sebum your skin makes, making it much better option than coffee for those who are acne-prone. Matcha also contains flavonoids, which help with DNA repair, and are even shown to help lessen fine lines. (Try our Japanese Matcha Tea & Goji Berry Facial Mask for a glow like no other!)

Coconut Oil – A spoonful of coconut oil a day added to your diet is thought to help nourish skin, nails, and hair, boost metabolism, and help with weight loss. (We’ve included it as one of the five precious oils in our Body Oil for the hydration, glow, and skin conditioning it offers!)

Olive Oil – Consumed regularly, olive oil is known to help tame skin inflammation thanks to its richness in a type of antioxidant called phenols. (Try our Body Oil to see what olive oil can do for your skin when applied topically!)

Carrots - High in beta-carotene, carrots help protect skin against the UV damage. They’re also a good source of magnesium, which helps with sleep, and we all know that our skin is the first place to take the hit when we’re not getting enough rest.

Berries – Antioxidant-rich berries are lower-sugar fruits that may help reduce acne. We love blueberries, blackberries, and goji berries for their glow-inducing levels of Vitamin C.

Citrus - This refreshing branch of the fruit family helps fight free radicals, repair cellular damage, and regenerate skin's elasticity. That’s one of the reasons why we’ve included it (in Essential Oil form) in our Egyptian Geranium & Bergamot Body Lotion, Body Wash, Body Oil, Hand Cream, and Hand Soap.

Happy World Vegan Day!  We hope this is a delicious invitation to try new plant-based recipes and incorporate more fruits and veggies as part of your beauty rituals.
