The Simple Key to Anti Aging That Most People Don’t Know

- By: Aimee Regur

Next to using a good toner, exfoliating is a key step in a healthy anti-aging regimen. When most people notice that their skin is dry, dull, and almost lifeless they may reach for a heavy moisturizer when exfoliating is a cure to consider.

Exfoliation has been used for thousands of years to keep the skin alive, healthy, and vibrant. The ancient Egyptians were the first to use exfoliating treatments. History also reveals that during the Middle Ages, wine, with its active ingredient, tartaric acid, a natural AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), was used as a chemical exfoliant.

Exfoliation is the removal of the old expired skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface. Exfoliation is the natural shedding process of the skin. If we are at optimal health every 30 days our skin gets a new layer of skin cells. The skin cells are born at the basal cell layer, the lowest layer of the epidermis. The epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin, the one you can see and touch.

Skin cells start out nice and plump and round at the basal cell layer. They travel through the layers of the epidermis until they reach the stratum corneum or skin’s surface. As they travel upward, they flatten out and are eventually sloughed off. This entire cycle takes about 30 days.

As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down. Cells start to accumulate unevenly on the skin’s surface, giving it a dry, rough, dull appearance.

The Pangea Egyptian Geranium with Adzuki Bean and Cranberry Facial Scrub is unique in that it uses both enzymatic and mechanical exfoliators. It is composed of ingredients that help stimulate and speed up skin cell regeneration. Used for hundreds of years, adzuki beans are ground up to create soft and yet effective mechanical exfoliators. Like micro loofa’s, these tiny wonder-workers polish the skin gently leaving a soft, smooth surface. The finely ground beans also remove excess oil and dirt and clean out pores.

What’s really exciting about the cranberry seeds we use is that they have a perfect ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids, which means they absorb quickly into the skin, giving you great hydration. The scrub also aids in the absorption process of potent antioxidants, like Vitamin E, and many other nutrients. Cranberry seeds also release powerful enzymes so you’re getting a dual action exfoliator!

In addition to the nutrient dense exfoliators we have also added three of the post potent essential oils to improve the health of your skin.

Carrot Seed Oil: The seeds of wild carrot otherwise known as Queen Anne Lace are steam distilled to create an amazing oil. The health benefits of carrot seed essential oil can be attributed to its properties as an antiseptic, disinfectant, detoxifying agent, antioxidant, stimulant, and cytophylactic, which means it stimulates new skin cell growth.

Frankensense Oil: Frankincense Oil is extracted from the gum or resin of Frankincense or Olibanum trees. In addition to having many of the same properties as carrot seed oil it is also a cicatrisant. When applied topically or inhaled, Frankensense Oil can allow the scars and after marks of acne and pox on the skin to fade. Benefits also include the fading of stretch marks and surgery scars.

Geranium Oil: This is my favorite oil of all of the essential oils in the world! In addition to having many of the properties of Carrot Seed Oil and Frankensense Oil, it is also a super powerful cytophylactic, which means it promotes cell health and the regeneration of new cells. This helps in the growth of the body’s cells as well as gametes by helping the body metabolize things efficiently.

This scrub is gentle enough to use daily, I recommend trying it towards the end of your shower every three days and gradually increase it. Fortunately we are all different and so is our skin.
