This mask is a superfood smoothie for your skin! It removes expired skin cells, strengthens the skin’s elasticity, and utilizes the earth’s most effective antioxidants to get your glow on.
French Green Clay and White Clay (Bentonite) are packed with essential nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, and iron. Combined they have more than 70 minerals. Bentonite Clay creates a charge when it comes in contact with liquid. The moisture on your skin has many toxins in it, from environmental toxins all the way to harmful bacteria that can cause skin imbalance and breakouts. When these clays bind with the toxins and excess oils it carries them away when the clays are washed off. The other amazing task that these clays take on is pulling excess hydrogen from skin cells and allowing oxygen to take its place. More oxygen equates to faster healing times and improved skin cell recovery times.
Some of my favorite skincare ingredients are sea vegetables. Seaweeds of all types have been used for centuries to restore natural radiance to the skin. They are packed with vitamins, minerals, and iodine, which can boost thyroid function. The thyroid gland produces amino acids that absorb iodine, and also produces a metabolism-regulating chemical in the bloodstream. This metabolism regulator also helps rejuvenate the skin. Seaweed is one of the best things we can use on our skin to reduce inflammation. Inflammation is one of the key causes of ailments we endure both in our bodies and on our skin. Inflammation on our skin comes in many forms: acne, rosacea, and contact dermatitis are common ways our skin tells us that something is not balanced. Seaweed is rich in vitamin B-1, B-2, B-3, B-6, and B-12, a natural anti-inflammatory. This reduces the pooling of blood beneath the skin and alleviates the associated symptoms. Topical lotions and creams with seaweed can nourish the skin from the outside, causing a similar or dual effect.
By now, you most likely have heard of the term “superfoods.” This is a marketing term used to label foods that are exceptionally nutrient dense. Most unprocessed fruits and vegetables are considered superfoods in my book, but the two we chose to use in this mask are top of the mark. Goji Berries which are grown high up in the Himalayas and Acai (ah-sa-ee) berries wild-crafted from under the Brazilian Rainforest canopy are some of the most antioxidant, and nutrient-dense foods on earth.
Free radicals are charged chemical particles of oxygen that enter into destructive chemical bonds with organic substances such as proteins. The result is an oxidation or chemical burning of the substance which destroys it. You can easily see this process by cutting open a potato or and apple and letting it sit on the counter. Antioxidants are nutrients (vitamins and minerals) and enzymes (proteins inside your body) that can help to prevent and repair damage to your body’s tissue. Antioxidants do this by slowing or preventing the effect of free radicals.
In short there are many, many more amazing nutrient-dense foods for your skin in this mask—too many to list in this post. Let your skin absorb the rest of the information as this mask restores your natural, youthful glow.
