Celebrating our Inspirations

Joshua Onysko, Pangea's founder, met this incredible producer at a tradeshow in Germany many years ago.Their farm started small as a husband-and-wife team – they were born in Egypt and then traveled to Massachusetts where they became educated in horticulture and organic farming practices. They purchased and converted a small farm to organic practices back in Egypt and have grown exponentially over the years. We started buying a couple select essential oils from them, which then evolved into purchasing rose, rose geranium, and also basil to support our skincare and bodycare products.
When Joshua visited the farm in 2017, he had a chance to participate in their rose harvest. In order to harvest the rose petals, the small team wakes up at 3:00 AM every day to start the harvest at 4:00 AM. By 10:00 AM, the sun is too hot to harvest the rose petals without damaging them. So it’s a limited window and requires a strong synergy amongst the small team to operate. Their movements in the fields just hum – and there is such great respect for the delicacy of the ingredient. They all share a lunch together every day after they wrap the harvest, and then they head home to support their families (all of the farmers live in close proximity to the farm).
What Joshua was most impressed by was that this is a 100% women-operated farm. The women are valued, respected, and many have remained lifelong employees of the farm. Joshua captured some photos of the joy they expressed so authentically in their work, and he said, “I was so humbled to be a part of the harvest with them. Everyone working here has full healthcare provided for them as well as educational resources to empower them – including in areas like sexual health and wellness that culturally for the region would be considered controversial. They are a family, and the genuine care they show for each other, and their craft radiates. I'm so proud to be a small part of supporting their efforts.”
Because one of the core tenets of our brand is human care, that means care for all the partners who support the creation of the ingredients or packaging of our products, which ultimately, means providing the highest standards of care, safety, and efficacy in the experience of the products we provide to our consumers. We will never compromise on this - even when it means higher costs and lower profit margins; our mission is to always prioritize people over profits.
In case this was not already a perfect partner for Pangea, this farm also recently invested in becoming a 100% solar-powered farm, which is a huge commitment to make in a developing country. In addition to that, they have the most meticulous composting process we’ve ever seen – their thoughtfulness and attention to minimizing resources and waste positively impacts our world, and this aligns with the mission of Pangea to only create products with purpose.
